Kate McConnell
Hi, I’m Kate McConnell! I’m a Midwest girl who’s passion for climbing started a little later in life than most. I was born and raised in Indiana and am currently based out of Indianapolis. At age 23, I had my first taste of outdoor climbing in the Red River Gorge and immediately knew that this was a sport and lifestyle meant for me. Before that, I studied Musical Theatre at Vincennes University and earned my associate’s degree in Social Science. Now at age 28, I’m a full-time Route Setter and dirt bagger living out of my vintage camper.
Studying art helped bridge the gap between my artistic passions and climbing passions, which inspired me when I started route setting. Being able to not only make beautiful rock climbs but actively build my climbing community’s skills through these creations is incredibly soul-fulfilling. One of the biggest turn-ons about this sport is the continuous support and psych from one climber to another. Whether it comes from a friend or just a stranger at the crag. Testing my physical and mental abilities outdoors and re-creating those challenges indoors for others to climb and conquer is a feeling like no other! I’m continually working hard to better my skill set and connect with people in our fast-growing community.
