Sean McColl is an avid 30-year-old sport climber who has been competing for the past 20 years. Sean’s home is in North Vancouver although he travels on a consistent basis to Eastern Canada, Europe, and Asia following the competition circuit. Sean’s goal is to qualify and compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
As an athlete, Sean’s accomplishments in this sport are numerous, unprecedented, and unrepeated for a climber from Canada especially since the sport has been and continues to be dominated by European and Asian climbers.
Sean was the Canadian Youth Champion in his age group every year from 1999-2005 having won every National Championships he attended. During his youth career, Sean claimed 5 world titles, 3 in difficulty and 2 in speed; since no other youth competitor has won more titles; this achievement is unsurpassed in youth climbing history even to this day. As an open competitor, Sean has won 33 world cup medals, in which 5 were gold, 14 were silver and 14 were bronze. On top of that, Sean has been an Open Combined World Champion another 4 times. Overall is the decided format for the 2020 Olympic Games, this makes Sean an Olympic Podium Hopeful identified by Sport Canada, Own the Podium, and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
